What Spotify asks for
Canvas is a vertical 9:16 clip, three to eight seconds long, that loops silently behind the track in the mobile app. Spotify recommends uploading at 720 × 1280 or larger.
WaveForge exports 1080 × 1920 vertical, which comfortably clears that. You pick the passage of the song you want the loop drawn from — usually a bar or two with clear movement in it.
Why generate it from the audio
A Canvas made from stock footage has no relationship to the track. A Canvas made from the track’s own spectrum moves on the same beats the listener is hearing, even though the Canvas itself plays silently.
That is the whole reason it reads as intentional rather than decorative.
Making it loop cleanly
Short loops live or die on the seam. Pick a segment that starts and ends on similar energy — the top of a bar rather than mid-fill — and the join stops being visible.
Styles with continuous motion, like the radial and generative families, hide a seam far better than ones with a hard reset.

How long can a Spotify Canvas be?
Between three and eight seconds. It loops, so anything longer is rejected and anything shorter tends to feel frantic. Six seconds is a comfortable middle.
Do I need Spotify for Artists to upload one?
Yes. Canvas is added from the Spotify for Artists dashboard against a specific release, which means you need a claimed artist profile with the track already live or scheduled.
Can I use the same video for TikTok?
The dimensions are identical, so yes — though a Canvas is a short silent loop and a TikTok post usually wants the full passage with audio. Exporting both from the same session takes one extra recording.
